Choosing a Coffee Pot

If you're like most people, you have a personal preference for how you like your coffee. Maybe it’s two creams, one sugar; one cream, four sugars; or exactly as it comes from the coffee pot - black. You can add as many creams and sugars as you want, but if the coffee pot doesn’t make a fine brew, it won't matter. With so many choices available, choosing the right one can be a daunting task. Some machines may look more like a piece of artwork or a futuristic sculpture for the kitchen counter, but it's what it puts out that really makes a coffee pot worth the extra buck. It helps to have an idea of what you’re looking for before even hitting the stores.

First off, decide if you have a brand preference. Are you partial to Folgers? Only drink Maxwell House? Or do you like to mix it up from time to time? Many of the new coffee pot models use pods or discs. These replace the traditional filter and scooping of grounds with a small, envelope-like, sealed filter that already has the grounds in it. They're available in a variety of flavors. Some brands have also branched out to include tea pods so you can use your coffee pot to easily make a soothing cup of hot tea.

One downside to this new line of coffee pots is that you can only use the pods or discs. There is less of an assortment to choose from as far as flavor and taste and no option to go back to using the traditional method.

Next, ask yourself if you are on a mission to make your kitchen into a coffeehouse? When shopping for a coffee pot, one can easily find a basic machine for a great, low price. If you also happen to have a love for cappuccino, espresso and even lattes, you may want to consider one of the more expensive models that have the functions to make these. Think about all of the money spent at the major coffee chains. A cappuccino can easily cost you five dollars. Multiply that by a pit stop a couple of times each week and it adds up rather quickly. If you cut back on the coffeehouse trips here and there, you should have the money for the convenience of a brand new coffee pot in no time.

When you’re finally ready to make the purchase, don’t be worried if the price seems a bit daunting. Take comfort in the fact that the prices for a top-notch coffee pot that can give you coffee that surpasses the café are steadily decreasing. Just like most perfected technology, the price goes down with time. Contrary to what mothers everywhere insist upon, you usually get what you pay for when it comes to coffee makers. More money equals a better product.

Once you have narrowed down your needs a bit, you can use the internet to take the guesswork out of shopping for that perfect coffee pot to finally get that desired, at-home brew. In the coffee pot world, there are so many choices and options available. You'll find more to like in your new coffee pot than ever before.
